Only Murders In The Building trio reunites on Saturday Night Live

This week-end, NBC aired the latest issue of the comedy show Saturday Night Live of 2022. Like every week, a celebrity presented the program but to end the year, there were two and not the least since they are two legends of the SNL, Steve Martin and Martin Short. The two American comedians, co-stars of Only Murders in the Buildinghave joined the team of SNL for a hilarious evening.

As at the start of every show, the host of the week of SNL delivers an introductory monologue. Steve Martin and Martin Short know this exercise for having hosted the show on several occasions (15 times for one, 3 times for the other) but this is the first time that they have presented it together. For seven minutes, the two actors recalled their good and bad memories together for more than 40 years. At the end of the monologue when Steve Martin asks who he could make a new tandem with, a female voice is heard and it’s Selena Gomez who later joined his two co-stars fromOnly Murders in The Building (whose season 3 will shoot from January). We often repeat it but it’s the best trio on television for a very long time!

Hilarious Parodies of a Christmas Carol and Father of the Bride

After the monologue, Saturday Night Live was punctuated with fake advertisements, fake news and film parodies. In one of them, Steve Martin and Martin Short revisit A Christmas Carol of Charles Dickens where Ebenezer Scrooge (Martin Short) become nice throws coins to his community except that things will go wrong (be careful, it’s trashy and violent but terribly funny).

In another sketch, the two comedians revisit the film The Father of the Bridea cult comedy from the 1990s where Steve Martin plays George Banks, a protective family man who marries off his eldest daughter Annie. In this sketch below, the saga was entitled to an eighth installment (in reality there were two) and George must again marry his daughter who has been divorced seven times. Martin Short resumes his role as Franck, the wacky wedding planner, while Selena Gomez embodies its own role and Kieran Culkin (the actor of Succession and brother of Macaulay Culkin) plays that of George’s future son-in-law.

The show ended with a live performance by the country singer Brandy Carlile. Just after, Steve Martin and Martin Short surrounded by their guests and the team of SNL greeted the audience and viewers.

Only Murders in The Building nominated for Golden Globes

This December 12, 2022, Only Murders in The Building received four nominations for Golden Globes 2023 : Best Comedy Series, Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Martin Short and Steve Martin and Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Selena Gomez.

The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 and will be broadcast on NBC and peacock in the USA. The results will be available on Disneyphile very slightly delayed. Fingers crossed for this fabulous trio!
