Romans 8:28, 29

Man, created in the image of God

God created man in his own image (Genesis 1:27). By his behavior, man, still innocent, had to manifest before creation the characteristics of God: love, purity, wisdom, intelligence, etc.
Now, having lacked confidence in the word of God and doubted his love and holiness, Adam and Eve did not show these divine characters, but succumbed to Satan’s trickery. The image of God in man has been terribly disfigured.
Before sending the flood, God had seen “that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that all the imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only wickedness at all times” (Genesis 6:5). . Later, despite all of God’s care for his people Israel among whom he had chosen to dwell, humanity still presented the divine glory only very poorly. In the end, the Lord Jesus came to this earth and he had to say to the Jews: “You are of your father the devil” (John 8. 44), because by their works they reflected the image of the devil.
Man is still responsible for manifesting the image of God, but because of his sinful nature he cannot. Will God be forever deprived of having man in his image and likeness? No, the Son of God came into this world as a man, the second Man, to be the perfect image and likeness of God. Jesus remains God, but in his human body he gave God the satisfaction he should have found in man. He bore the image of God in such perfection that he could say, “He who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9).
Christians, we are predestined by God “to be conformed to the image of his Son”. This is God’s eternal plan. What he does not receive from man on earth he will receive in glory. Christ will always be the First, but we will be made perfectly like him.
Let us not wait to be in glory: let us contemplate today the glory of Christ, what he was and what he is, and we will be transformed into his image (see 2 Corinthians 3:18), according to God’s desire and for his present satisfaction.
