Within the list of titles that They will soon be gone from HBO Max.we have the funniest and most addictive reality show of the year (along with season 2 of ‘Drag Race Spain’). ‘FBOY Island’ triumph where Telecinco’s reality shows fail Y You only have until Sunday the 18th before they remove it of HBO Max.
Bad boys or good boys?
The premise is as surreal as it is hilarious: three girls, an island and 24 suitors who can be good boys or bad boys (nice guys either fboys). The contestants will get to know them throughout the chapters and eliminate those with whom they have less connection. Be careful, because if they end up with a bad boy, he will keep all the prize money and he will have to decide whether to share it with her or not.
A crazy starting point and not even the show itself is taken seriously. That is the strong point of this reality show and of which they should take note ‘The island of temptations’ either ‘Forever’: He assumes his playful, light-hearted identity and is constantly parodying himself.
The program knows that we have come here to play and gives us good dose of bullshitalways accompanied by humor and that ironic counterpoint that manage to start more than one laugh.
So that we understand each other, here we can be seeing a lovey-dovey couple making out and, suddenly, they put a shot of a camel’s face with its tongue hanging out. Or see another couple walking idyllicly on the beach and put on an insert where it says that “As their date was very boring, we leave you with 10 seconds of abs”etc.
Much of the credit for that playful tone goes to Nikki Glazer, the comedian who accepts her role as emcee here and stars sketches as fun as “giving counseling” to bad boys, so they “learn to deal with withdrawal.”
Of course, it also has its share of sauce without complexes which is tremendously entertaining, both for the aforementioned touches of humor and for know how to better measure time to avoid lengthening unnecessarily scenes and/or conflicts.
As for conflicts, we have a bit of everything but without falling into the dynamics of trying to whitewash certain shady behaviors, as happens in other cases. Even in the most dramatic momentsmanages to maintain a good balance and break the tension at the end (with some complicit look from the contestants to the camera, for example).
The reality has two seasons of 10 chapters each and are devoured one after the other. The first one is funny, but the second one raises the stakes and allows itself to be even more parodic, introducing visual jokes and many meta-references to characters and events of one’s own. Show.
‘FBOY Island’ has everything that reality shows that are broadcast free to air lack: It’s fun, addictive, and takes itself very little seriously.. Too bad HBO Max is going to get rid of it because it’s the best reality show in its catalog and you can take advantage of this weekend to marathon it before it’s no longer available.
