A screenshot of a tweet supposedly published by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, circulates on social networks, in which he celebrates that in Spain there are “more LGTBI+ weddings than heterosexuals” and calls for the “typical Francoist marriage” to disappear. But it is false, since it is a parody account.
“For the first time in our country, more LGTBI+ weddings are celebrated than heterosexual ones. Great news to end the year. Hopefully soon there will be no trace of the typical Francoist marriage of ‘man and woman’ that generates so much violence and hatred. We govern for the people”, is the message that Sánchez would have allegedly written, shared on networks such as Twitter and Facebook. You have also asked us about the tweet in our WhatsApp verification service. But there is no trace of this message on the president’s Twitter account, and it is also not true that there are more marriages of LGTBI couples than heterosexuals, according to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Actually, the tweet comes from a parody account. The profile that has shared the message, which usually publishes humorous content related to the President of the Government, contains different elements from those of Sánchez’s official profile, such as his name or biography. Despite being satirical content, many users on social networks have shared the fake tweet or a screenshot of it as if they were real.
It is false that Pedro Sánchez has described marriage between a man and a woman as a Francoist tradition in a viral tweet
Although the name of Pedro Sánchez appears on the screenshot, in reality the tweet about the “Franco marriage” was not published by him but by a humorous account. The very name of the Twitter profile specifies that it is a “parody”.
In addition, several elements of the profile do not match those of the official account of the President of the Government. The biography, the username, the profession and the number of followers are different, in addition to the fact that the account fake it also does not include the verification symbol. Below you can compare both profiles.

In any case, from Newtral.es we have reviewed Pedro Sánchez’s social networks, and we have not found any tweet in which he celebrates that there are more LGTBI weddings and describes marriage between men and women as a “Franco” tradition. For example, his last tweet using the term “marriage” was published in 2020, in reference to the 15 years of the approval of equal marriage. In addition, there is no trace of Sánchez’s supposed tweet about LGTBI and heterosexual weddings in digital archives such as Web Archive.

In Spain there are no more LGTBI marriages than between men and women
In addition to the fact that the tweet about Pedro Sánchez and the “Franco” marriage comes from a parody account, the information it gives is not real either. It is not true that in Spain there are more marriages of LGTBI people.
According to the latest INE data corresponding to 2021, in Spain there were a total of 143,515 marriages between people of different sex. On the other hand, the numbers of LGTBI marriages are lower, since in 2021 there were 2,206 between menand 2,867 between women. For the year 2022 there is still no data available.
