Santiago Domínguez Werlsh wants to take advantage of the exposure that “La Academia” gave him to launch his personal project, something he cannot talk about yet, but he is looking for a mix between Christian Nodal and Alejandro Fernández, since his passion is regional Mexican music with the versatility of being able to sing a ballad or something pop if he wanted to, as the two already established artists do.
The singer, who was eliminated number 11 from the reality show, among 18 competitors, was born in Mexico City, but from a very young age, at two years of age, he came to live in Mérida.
He has an artistic family background, his great-uncle was Héctor Herrera “Cholo”, and Alejandro Filio, his uncle.
He remembers that at the age of three he made his debut in a play that Jazmín López put on “Tina Tuyub”, a parody called “Harry Poot and the prisoner of Yaxcabá”, in which he was the driver of a mototaxi, who could barely make it move forward. the weight of the passenger he was carrying at the scene, which he recalls was three times as great with him.
His foray into the regional theater was in several works, so it is not uncommon that now, that he has become a well-known person thanks to “The Academy”, he wants to venture into series and movies.
Of course, his passion for music is what moves him most at this time, in which he lives the dream of something he did not imagine, because being inside “The Academy” he did not know what was happening outside, but when he left he realized account of the magnitude of what he had experienced, since wherever he went, not only in Mexico City, but in other states he has visited in recent weeks, there are people who recognize him and ask him to take pictures with him.
The experiences he has lived have been wonderful for his career, for example, he says that a few days ago he appeared at the Lunario del Auditorio Nacional opening a Myriam Montemayor show, together with the former academic Fernanda.
He shares that it was very exciting and he enjoyed it a lot, since it was different from appearing in the “reality”, where there was always the pressure of knowing that the judges were watching them, but in the Lunario he felt more confident, and this gave him allowed to enjoy more their participation and closeness with the public.
Santiago was invited by Ana Bárbara, one of the judges of “La Academia”, to open a concert that he will offer on October 8 at a Fair in Mexicali, so he is happy with these opportunities that they are offering him.
About his time in the “reality” and the opinion of the judges towards him, external that he really liked the criticism of Lolita Cortés, who has decades of experience, so receiving advice from him considers that it was like having a great coach.
He also appreciates the opinions of Ana Bárbara and Horacio; The only one he did not agree with was Arturo López Gavito, and what he told him about the fact that the ranchero genre does not suit him, well, for many years he has been dealing with the Mexican regional genre and feels that he has worked well on it, and many people he has been told that the genre is going well for him, because of his thick voice tessitura.
He states that the taste for regional Mexican music came to him after participating in a school contest called Music Fest, in which he sang the song “Like someone who loses a star” that he often heard in the voice of Alejandro Fernández, since after That performance, several people approached him to tell him how well the genre was doing for him, so he decided to continue exploring it.
But what made him finally decide on vernacular music was a visit he made to Tlaquepaque in Guadalajara, since he felt a great emotion when he saw the many mariachis on the site. He began to listen more and more to Vicente Fernández, Pepe Aguilar, and even Pedro Infante.
Among his favorite songs are “El rey” by Vicente Fernández, “Mujeres Divinas”, “México Lindo y Querido” and “Like someone who loses a star”.
He had never tried to enter a singing reality show before, although he had thought about it, and now that he did, he feels happy with what he has experienced, what he has learned, and the doors that this has opened for him, since he is already working in his musical project hand in hand with the Sony Music label. Santiago, who plays guitar and ukulele, also composes songs, so he will surely make some of what he has written known.
