Bellaria Film Festival 2022: the program of the 14th edition

The 40th edition of the Bellaria Film Festival, dedicated to young independent Italian cinema, will take place in Bellaria Igea Marina from 12 to 15 May.

The fortieth edition of the Bellaria Film Festivalhistoric film event that this year will be directed for the first time by Daniela Persicofilm critic, programmer and curator

After a series of editions dedicated mainly to the documentary, the Bellaria Film Festival returns to take care of independent Italian cinemawith the intention of launching future great authors, as it has done in the past with Paolo Sorrentino, Matteo Garrone, Gianfranco Rosi And Pietro Marcello. This means that first works of the present will be presented, some from other international festivals, others in absolute preview.

Opening and closing films and meetings

The opening and closing films of the Bellaria Film Festival will be respectively Alcarràs from Carla Simon (film winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlinale in 2022) e The Handymen from Neus Ballúswhich won the Pardo d’Oro for best male interpretation at the Locarno Film Festival 2021. The two directors will present them to the public.

Also noteworthy is the meeting with Andrea Carpenzanowhich thanks to its performance in Calcinculo will receive the Casa Rossa award for the face of Italian independent cinema.

The competitions:

The two competitive competitions are back at the Bellaria Film Festival:

The Red House competitionwith a prize of 5000 euros, was created by Enrico Ghezzi And Morando Morandini and is dedicated to films directed and produced by the new protagonists of Italian cinema to their first or second work. The films competing for the Red House award I am:

The Seagull competition it will instead be dedicated to independent and previously unreleased films. The winner will receive a prize of 3000 Euros awarded by a jury composed of Lucia Mascino, Martina Parenti, Massimo D’Anolfi And Mathilde Henrot. There are ten films in the competition, also competing for the Audience Award.

The tribute to Enrico Ghezzi

The 40th edition of the Bellaria Film Festival will pay tribute to Enrico Ghezzi, who was director of the event for fourteen years. It will do this through an installation of Alessandro Gagliardo and of the same Ghezziand with a reading of Luigi Lo Cascio of memorable interventions by the critic. There will also be a path of itinerant readings of some of his writings more famous than him.

At the Bellaria Film Festival 2022 there will also be space for musical films, closely connected to the Emilia-Romagna area, for debates and for students, who will be able to participate in training workshops.
