Rakuten TV: what’s new to see in December

The new original Rakuten TV documentary Ettore Bassi is coming soon: Stage and Race exclusively for free, Black Adam, Ticket to Paradise, Smile, The lord of the ants and many others in the TVOD section. In December also a rich AVOD offer and two Christmas promos!

December is the month of gifts par excellence, and Rakuten TV couldn’t miss it! Original docu-films and films for the whole family are arriving this month, a selection of TVOD titles available at a special price, new TV series and two promos not to be missed. Christmas has never come so early!

To enrich the AVOD section of this month the new original documentary film Rakuten TV Ettore Bassi: Stage and Race, available exclusively for free on the platform in 42 European countries from 22 November: the original production follows the personal experience of the actor and driver Ettore Bassi, in constant alternation between the performance on stage and on the track. Among the free titles, a selection for all tastes is arriving in December: sentimental comedies Down with lovewith Ewan McGregor and Renée Zellweger, e Life or something like it with an enchanting Angelina Jolie; with the most dramatic tones available A father on loanwhich stars Academy Award® winner William Hurt in the titular role; Want to start over, the story of the relationship between a rebellious 1950s teenager and his abusive stepfather, starring Robert De Niro, Ellen Barkin and a young Leonardo DiCaprio; the all-Italian film My class with Valerio Mastandrea in the guise of an Italian teacher dealing with an evening school class for adult foreigners, e Somersby with stars like Richard Gere and Jodie Foster. Of a completely different kind Fantastic Mr. Fox, the animated film by the unmistakable Wes Anderson, embellished by the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Bill Murray. For the whole family, here comes the comedy Falling in love in Manhattan and, in keeping with the holiday season, SOS Christmas And The Nutcracker Sweet.

There are many news also in the TVOD section of the platform: the blockbuster of the DC Extended Universe is coming this month Black Adams, starring Dwayne Johnson as the protagonist who, after 5,000 years of captivity, is released from his earthly grave and is now ready to unleash his justice in the modern world. Also available in December Ticket to Paradise, a romantic comedy with the iconic George Clooney and Julia Roberts; from the 79th Venice International Film Festival, The lord of the ants by Gianni Amelio tells the story of Aldo Braibanti in Italy in the Sixties, with Luigi Lo Cascio, Elio Germano, Sara Serraiocco, Leonardo Maltese and Anna Caterina Antonacci, available at a special price from 22 to 25 December, while Paolo Virzì in Drought shows an arid and dystopian Rome, with Silvio Orlando, Valerio Mastandrea, Elena Lietti, Tommaso Ragno and Claudia Pandolfi, available at a special price from 28 December to 2 January. For thrill seekers, don’t miss the chilling Smiley by Parker Finn e Halloween Ends, epic and terrifying conclusion to the most acclaimed and revered horror franchise in cinematic history, by David Gordon Green starring Jamie Lee Curtis. Also noteworthy is a series of titles to be seen all in one go: from thrillers The Swamp Girlstarring Daisy Edgar-Jones as a woman raised in the swamps of the Deep South who becomes a suspect in the murder of a man she was once involved with, and Murder in the West Endstarring Sam Rockwell, Saoirse Ronan and Adrien Brody, in which plans for the film adaptation of a blockbuster comedy come to an abrupt halt after the murder of a key member of the crew, to the detective Memorywith Liam Neeson and Monica Bellucci, available at a special price from December 29 to January 2, up to the adventurous beast with Idris Elba. Finally, the animated film is coming for the little ones Thad the Explorer and the Emerald Tabletwith Óscar Barberán, Michelle Jenner, Alexandra Jiménez, Fernando Valverde and Cecilia Suarez.

In the SVOD Lionsgate+ section, however, the first episode of the TV series lands Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler, story of the Wayne family butler, Alfred Pennyworth, a former soldier in the British Army’s Special Air Service and how he got his start working for Bruce Wayne’s father. The last episode of the third season is also on the way Step Up: High Water, TV series based on the iconic dance franchise. Set in High Water, the most ruthless performing arts school in Atlanta, the protagonists of the series will discover how much they are willing to fight to make their dreams come true.
