10 unmissable events: the guide to the Bolognese weekend

A weekend that starts badly for superstitious players, even if in the end this Friday 17th promises an excellent weekend, at least as regards the agenda of events. Everyone will find an outlet because summer officially starts in Bologna: while the big screen in Piazza Maggiore lights up for the review “Under the movie stars”, all around is a proliferation of concerts, markets, festivals and evenings in the open air. Deciding what to do will be the real problem, while we exclude a priori a race to the sea, discouraged by the queues. The big news this week? For fans of Japan there is the twelfth edition of NipPop: Words and shapes from Tokyo to Bologna, from 17 to 19 June in the beautiful rooms of the Santo Stefano district of Bologna. From 16 to 18 June the Republic of Ideas returns to Bologna in a special edition: party, with music and scenic readings between Piazza Maggiore, Piazza Santo Stefano and Palazzo Re Enzo.

Here are the 10 events not to be missed!

(for those who couldn’t take it anymore without cinema in the square)

Finally here we are. The magical Bolognese summer opens with the big screen in Piazza Maggiore and with a billboard that counts 54 evenings Under the stars of the Cinema in Piazza Maggiore. It starts on Sunday 19 June (and until 14 August) with a hymn to peace, “The Great Dictator” by Charlie Chaplin: a brave satirical parody of Nazism that directly targets Adolf Hitler and his movement.

(for a perfect wine and music combo)

More than twenty years of exhibition, conceived by the Municipality of Zola Predosa, which manages to combine two passions in the heart of the Bolognese hills: music and food and wine. Nature and culture come together in 9 appointments between villas, trekking itineraries, wineries, tastings, wineries and excellent jazz played by top-level professionals. It starts on Friday 17 at 9.15 pm at Villa Edvige Garagnani (Via Masini, 11 Zola Predosa) with Jimmy Villotti Trio in concert (Jimmy Villotti, guitar; Mimmo Turone, hammond C3; Adam Pache, drums). A trio made up of three specialists of their own instrument that sees Villotti and Turone, two musicians who have been collaborating for many years in various formations, join the great drummer Adam Pache, an unprecedented trio. Swing and groove are the dominant factors of this project where the energy released by the pulsation brings us back to the values and strength of true Jazz. Guest of the evening will be Giacomo Fantoni on guitar. From 7.45 pm the Punto del Gusto will be open inside the Villa for those wishing to enjoy a pre-concert aperitif. Saturday 18 we are at the Maria Bortolotti farm from 5.00 pm with departure from the Palazola sports facility, viale dello Sport, 2 – Zola Predosa Wine tasting of the Maria Bortolotti winery. Concert by Domenico Caliri Cal Trio: with this formation the guitarist and composer Domenico Caliri carries on the project of the guitar trio, started already in the 2000s with the first Cal trio, giving continuity to his compositional path focused on the guitar, highlighting the personal research on the various timbral possibilities of the instrument. The music of the Cal Trio is imbued with jazz, but also with free improvisation and unconventional structures. The continuous dialogue between the leader and the rhythm section is an evident characteristic from the first listening. Sunday, to close in bellazza: Cannonballmania with Sandro Gibellini at the Manaresi Winery from 5.00 pm.

3. At the Monte Sole Historical Park “Radici – Festival of civil and environmental memories”

(to know everything about the story)

Roots – Festival of civil and environmental memories is a residential festival in the Monte Sole Historical Park aimed at weaving civil and environmental stories and memories that are part of the history of the Metropolitan City of Bologna, through shows, debates, workshops, concerts, trekking . The first edition will be held from 17 to 19 June 2022. Radici – Festival of civil and environmental memories was born from the collaboration between Libera Bologna, ANPI, Piantiamo la Memoria and the Family Association of the victims of August 2, with the aim of drawing a red thread between historical events and apparently distant memories, yet deeply intertwined and connected. Memories that we want to reconstruct and tell as a network of associations of the City of Bologna, to build a common and shared narrative on the history of our city, so deeply crossed and marked by events, including dramatic ones, which have shaped its cultural and political identity. Give it massacres of Monte Sole and the partisan struggle against the terrorist-mafia massacre on Express train 904; from the memory of Irma Flag to that of Angela Fresu; from the trials for the neo-fascist massacres to the bunker hall of the Aemilia process. The first edition of the festival will offer participants the opportunity to camp for the entire duration of the event in the Historic Park of Monte Sole. In its first year, Radici will be dedicated to some of the memories linked to the history of the Bolognese Apennines, organizing a three-day event that will start from the center of the city of Bologna, and then move inside the historic park of Monte Sole. A program of events, visits, testimonies, trekking, concerts, debates, shows and assemblies will allow you to intertwine stories, voices and memories, and at the same time to immerse yourself in the beauty and natural history of the Park.
