The popular 5pb time travel franchise. and Nitroplus, Steins;Gate, has multiple titles and adaptations available for Nintendo Switch. Fortunately, we can enjoy the full experience offered by his visual novels on the hybrid console.
This saga that would go on to become a phenomenon and a benchmark for the science fiction genre in anime features its origins in the visual novel first published in 2009, at the hands of Chiyomaru Shikura. Later, it would be localized and distributed on more platforms, in addition to giving rise to the 2011 animated series that would catapult its arrival to stardom.
In addition, Steins;Gate is one more small part of a whole: is part of “Science Adventure”, a series of interconnected science fiction visual novels from the same developers. The first entry, Chaos;Child, is expected to be released and localized on Nintendo Switch later this year.
Steins;Gate ELITE and its bonus on Nintendo Switch
In a curious proposal, the original visual novel was re-released in an unexpected way in the form of Steins;Gate ELITE, ditching the still sprites and backgrounds in favor of the series’ animated cutscenes. Of course, the scenes and endings not adapted in the original novel receive new animations, thus creating the perfect point to enter the franchise.
The plot of the title revolves around Okabe Rintarou’s laboratory, who accidentally discovers how to change the past using a microwave time machine. Thus, his adventure through time lines and dystopian conspiracies will begin, having to redeem his mistakes and fight against the very notion of time.
And that’s not all: depending on the platform where the game was purchased, it would add a different bonus, in the case of 8-BIT ADV STEINS;GATE for hybrid console. It is an 8-bit retro parody of what a title from the series would have looked like on the NES, including graphics and capabilities typical of the time.
The sequel that explores the despair of a broken cast, Steins;Gate 0 takes place in an alternate future before the end of the original novel., explaining the events and occurrences that would tie everything together. As in the original title, timelines and time jumps will be played with, although not as directly.
Just like ELITE, Steins;Gate 0 is planning a remake based on the animated scenes of its anime adaptation, called Steins;Gate 0 ELITE. However, it was announced in 2020 and there has not been much more news about it since then.
Steins;Gate: My Darling’s Embrace
Steins;Gate: My Darling’s Embrace, unlike the other titles, It is a romantic comedy spin-off with dating simulator elements.. Leaving science behind, it offers a series of non-canonical scenarios about what would happen if the protagonist decided to start a romantic relationship with the cast characters, giving rise to hilarious and crazy events.
Along with Steins;Gate 0, this title landed by surprise in the Nintendo Switch virtual store, expanding the available catalog of the “Science Adventure” for all its fans.
What the future holds: Steins;???
As for the future of the saga, luckily it seems that there are still plans to expand the Steins;Gate universe. In a past event organized by Mages, the development of a themed sequel to Steins;Gate. Also, it was confirmed that it would work similar to how Chaos;Child expands Chaos;Head.
As of today, no further details have been confirmed or if it will have plans to be released on Nintendo Switch, since the development companies are focused on the launch of Anonymous;Code.
