Who is Ben Lapidus?

Ben Lapidus is a singer, songwriter and sound designer. Lapidus has a BFA in recorded music from NYU Tisch’s Clive Davis Institute. He is also the co-creator of two podcasts: Who Killed Avril Lavigne? “A time-traveling pop punk podcast!” and Gay Future, “A brand new narrative homosexual podcast.”. Lapidus’ work on his podcast, Gay Future, earned him a Webby nomination and a role in The Atlantic’s 50 Best Podcasts of 2019. He also worked on Audible Original’s “Escape From Virtual Island” with Paul Rudd.

On top of that, he wrote and starred in the Off-Broadway musical Pop Punk High: a parody and celebration of all things pop punk. Billboard noted that the songs on the show were “really, really good” and The Fader praised Lapidus’ work, noting that the show had “a soundtrack full of overtime”. On his website, Lapidus talked about his love of pop-punk. “I came of age in the mid-aughters pop punk and emo scene, playing shows and writing songs in every spare moment. Much of the music I loved was raw and immature, or mundane and self-centered. But there was something in those songs that made my teenage angst and insecurity feel like something common, even universal. For me, making music wasn’t exactly an escape. It was a liberation ”. He said.

“What I appreciate most about music is its ability to deliver catharsis. So while the substance of my songs has changed, the raw emotion of my youth is still a source of inspiration. That feeling of liberation – that’s what I’ve always wanted most from music. And that’s what I hope my music can offer ”. She added.
