ROVIGO – Nine ballet dancers in tutu, with pointy shoes, ready to take flight, but they are not women, are nine dancers en travesti. To strike immediately is the brave graphics of the new season of the Teatro Sociale di Rovigo representing the Trockadero de Monte Carlo ballet company, the longest-running and most famous en travesti group in the worlddance troupe that will hold the show on April 18, 2023.
The season presented wants to be like that, muscular. And he succeeds above all in the prose side. With names and shows among the best of the best that the national panorama offers. Plus four operas drawn from tradition, Rigoletto, Trovatore, Capulets and Montecchi and the Barber of Seville, which mix prestigious names and new promises. A concert section of seven events that can satisfy all tastes including jazz, gospel, large orchestra (La Fenice thanks to the centenary of the Venezze Music Association), Christmas concert with the Solisti Veneti, New Year’s concert with prestigious singers and the charming and friendly presence of Cristina Chinaglia, a date of the orchestra of the Venezze Conservatory. The theatroragazzi that renews the opportunity to attend the general rehearsals of operas, plus the local productions of Lemming, the Venezze Conservatory and a performance for children that combines music and images.
To underline the important moment there is also the mayor Edoardo Gaffeo who thanks the artistic director Luigi Puxeddupartners, sponsors and even all the theater staff. The councilor for culture Roberto Tovo stresses that this is the first season organized by this administration “free” from restrictions, and that therefore it can be said to be truly authentic in affirming its identity.
The word was then passed to the director Puxeddu, who illustrated the billboard. The Season will start on November 18th with Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi, directed by G. Emiliani and screenings by Federico Cautero. It will be a co-production with the theaters of Treviso, Bassano and Padua with an international cast: Sebastian Catana in the title role, Marco Ciaponi in the role of the Duke of Mantua and Yiulia Merkudinova – selected in the April auditions of the theater – in the role of Gilda.
This will be followed by the title that the director has most at heart, “I Capuleti ei Montecchi” by Vincenzo Bellini (16 and 18 December 2022), with the sets and costumes by Filippo Tonon that will be created by the scenographic laboratory of the Rovigo theater, a double direction of ‘orchestra, the first performance will see Giancarlo Andretta on the podium and the second the debut at the Sociale of Gerardo Felisatti as conductor, known for being the artistic director of Rovigo Cello City 2022. Directed by Stefano Trespidi, the cast will be formed by the two young winners of the Toti Dal Monte 2022 competition and the exceptional Romeo will be the mezzo-soprano Paola Gardina from Rovigo. The new staging will be in co-production with the theaters of Treviso, Jesi and Padua.
The second part of the season will continue in 2023, 3 and 5 February, with “Il Trovatore” by Giuseppe Verdi, with a new staging in co-production with the theaters of Treviso, Novara and Jesi.
The last major title will be Gioachino Rossini’s most famous work, “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” (March 31 and April 2, 2023) with a cast of young people and a new production in co-production.
The classic appointment with the operetta will enrich the season, this year dedicated to “Al Cavallino Bianco” set up by Fantasia in RE under the direction of Stefano Giaroli (8 December 2022).
The season of prose and ballet brings loads from 90, as always in collaboration with Arteven. “It is not easy – said Pierluca Donin, director of Arteven – to insert prose in a theater that has a strong lyrical tradition but we always manage to bring the best. Last year, despite the pandemic, we managed to do exceptional numbers ”. The names are the most important on the national scene including Stefano Accorsi (March 8, 2023) in an unreleased version together with a director of the Azul circoteatro, Andrea Pennacchi with “Pojana and her brothers” (January 17, 2023), Michele Placido in a Goldoni classic, Emilio Solfrizzi for the first time in Veneto with his “The Imaginary Sick” (February 19, 2023), Max Pisu, Laura Curino and Antonio Cornacchione all together in “Pajamas for six” (11 February 2023), or Paola Quattrini, Paola Barale and Antonio Catania in “If you have to tell a lie, dilla grossa” (January 13, 2023), the increasingly successful Venetian company Stivalaccio Teatro with the new show “Harlequin died of fright” (February 27, 2023). The Trockadero ballet of Monte Carlo, the one photographed in the poster, as well as the Russian Classical Ballet of Moscow who will interpret The Nutcracker on January 6.
For the space dedicated to the TeatroRagazzi, the four operas will have a preview dedicated to them and thechamber opera Ante Lucem in co-production with the Lemming Theater: a stage writing by Massimo Munaro on music by Shostakovich and poems by Alexander Block (14 and 15 October).
The appointment dedicated to children with Tinotino Tinotina Tinotintintin of one of the most expert composers and creators of children’s shows, Elisabetta Garilli, with live illustrations by Emanuela Bussolati and the music of the Garilli Sound Project ensemble on 9 February 2023. In addition to many other appointments of the TeatroRagazzi, as always curated by Milena Dolcetto.
The collaboration with the Venezze Conservatory is realized with the staging of the work of “The proof of a serious work” (1805) by Francesco Gnecco, under the direction of Maestro Elisabetta Maschio and the direction of Anna Cuocolo, a brilliant parody of the life of the theater very suitable for young audiences and families (March 5, 2023).
The concert season has several appointments including the concert of 28 October by the Orchestra of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and that of 5 December with Giovanni Sollima conductor and soloist with the Filarmonia Veneta Orchestra, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the F. Venezze Association, the concert of Natale de I Solisti Veneti, the Tamburini Award, the Gospel concert, the New Year’s concert, with special guests the bass Riccardo Zanellato, the soprano Claudia Pavone and the actress Cristina Chinaglia, accompanied by the Conservatory Orchestra who will also offer a symphonic concert dedicated to Romanticism with Grieg’s concert for piano and Dvorak’s Symphony From the New World.
