From the “Aperta Parentesi” Association
The social promotion association Aperta Parentesi is pleased to announce the release of its fourth film:
“What a Divine comedy!”
Tuesday 13 December 2022 at 17.00
at the Ariston cinema
of Sestri Levante
This film is the result of three shorts made in three film workshops held in Sestri Levante/Casarza Ligure, Chiavari and Rapallo which involved 26 disabled adults. They welcomed us to carry out the workshops in their spaces: Villa Sottanis of the Municipality of Casarza Ligure, the Tassano Labor Insertion consortium, Casette Rosse of the municipality of Sestri Levante, the meeting space of Casa Gaffoglio in Rapallo, the Philharmonic auditorium in Chiavari.
The association was founded in 2015 with the aim of supporting and facilitating the social integration of disabled people or people with social problems. From this point of view, the cinema laboratory has played an important role, proving to be a tool to stimulate self-expression, self-esteem and personal growth, as well as collaboration and increase the ability to get involved and respect diversity others, working in groups.
The association has produced several films over time (Our Betrothed, Neverland, The Journey of Ulysses) we attach the address of our site: Home – Aperta Parentesi(apertaparentesiaps.it), our brochure and an in-depth study of the cinema laboratory and the other activities we offer.
This year it was financed by the Liguria Region through the ARTE project with resources from the Development and Cohesion Fund and the Axis 2 European Social Fund Regional program “Social inclusion and fight against poverty” – Line 2 – integrated path dedicated to promotion of social inclusion of disadvantaged people through access to culture, artistic creation and sport_Sub linea Cultura.
The Art Project was carried out by Il Sentiero di Arianna (responsible entity), Associazione Aperta Parentesi, Il Raggio csc, Mediaterraneo.
In each of our films we also try to enhance the beauty of our territory and therefore we shoot in nearby villages, hamlets, significant places.
This year they welcomed us and gave us the availability to shoot:
– Municipality of Nè and the director of the Aveto Park Paolo Cretta at the Gambatesa Mines (for the settings of Hell)
– Villa Rocca of the Municipality of Chiavari (Dark Forest)
– Villa Durazzo of the Municipality of S. Margherita Ligure (purgatory setting)
– Rapallo Castle (purgatory setting)
– BeB Terre di Liguria in Casarza Ligure (Paradise setting)
Other screenings are planned:
At Villa Sottanis, Municipality of Casarza Ligure (date to be defined)
At the Municipality of Rapallo (date and place still to be defined)
At the municipality of Nè (date and place still to be defined)
the Deaf Association of Tigullio asked us to screen it at the Assarotti institute in viale Millo in Chiavari.
Thinking it could be a training opportunity for high school students and teachers, we sent an invitation to the high schools of Chiavari Sestri Levante and Rapallo, to date 250 students have joined and therefore we have organized two screenings at the Mignon cinema in Chiavari on 19 and 21 December 2022 in the morning dedicated only to them.
The moment of the screening in the cinema is always a very exciting moment and one that gives back all the effort that the participants have employed and the progress that everyone has made, some from an expressive point of view, some from a relational one, in any case we think it can be a beautiful moment not only for those who have benefited from it, but also for the viewer because it gives a message of growth and hope.
We are therefore open and available to organize other screenings should requests emerge.
Admission is free and free but if you plan to come in a group, if you let us know the number we can reserve seats.
The presence of spectators will be a source of gratification for the boys and confirmation of the good result of their commitment will also be a good opportunity to exchange Christmas greetings!
This project is promoted by the Aperta Parentesi social promotion association. It was established in 2015 to promote social integration through educational and expressive activities aimed at developing self-knowledge and personal autonomy aimed at anyone (children, adolescents, adults, the elderly), but over the years developing above all expressive and independent living aimed at people with disabilities or with problems of social hardship.
The Cinema Laboratory has distinguished itself over time by revealing itself as a highly educational and stimulating methodology for self-expression, through learning how to use technical and artistic tools, it aims to strengthen self-esteem and consequently personal growth, collaboration, social integration, increased ability to get involved, learn to share common goals, respect each other’s diversity, stimulate cooperation, teamwork, empathy and awareness of one’s potential.
The moment of the screening in the cinema is always a very emotional moment and a moment of return for all the effort that the participants have employed and the progress that everyone has made, some from an expressive point of view, some from a relational one, in any case we think it can be a beautiful moment not only for those who have benefited from it, but also for the viewer because it gives a message of growth and hope.
For these reasons, we think the invitation to the screening could be a training opportunity to be offered to students and teachers of high and middle schools.
The first short film in 2014 was “Our Betrothed” a parody of Alessandro Manzoni’s The Betrothed, in 2016 it was the turn of the Peter Pan (James Matthew Barrie) parody with the short film “Neverland ” set in Sestri Levante and screened at the Ariston Cinema. In 2019, with “The journey of Ulysses”, it was the turn of the parody of Homer’s Odyssey.
This year we made “How divine is this Comedy” inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy (duration 50min).
The workshop involved 26 disabled adults, divided into three groups, one group in the Sestri/Casarza area, one in Chiavari and one in Rapallo. Each group made one part (Hell, Purgatory, Paradise), and then they were assembled into a single “film”. A small introductory video has also been edited where the laboratory is described to make people understand the educational work behind it.
The laboratory being a tool not only expressive but also and above all educational is structured in two parts:
– the first part is dedicated to an introspective work where we take some food for thought from the story we want to represent to be questioned and work on ourselves (through the aid of music, classroom games, painting, writing, etc.. ), get to know the various characters in the story and learn from them something that can serve us in our daily lives exercises aimed at strengthening verbal and bodily expressive skills and overcoming any emotional blocks that inhibit them.
– The second wall is an expressive work where the real “film” is created, therefore learning to express oneself, to interpret a character, rehearsals, filming, costumes, writing the script, choosing the music, etc…
This year it has been included in the ARTE project promoted by the Liguria Region through the Abilità al plurale 2 tender and which identifies its recipients in Area 1 – physical, mental and sensory disability. (Project partners: Coop. Soc. Il Sentiero di Arianna, association for social promotion Aperta Parentesi, Mediaterraneo Servizi, coop. Soc. Il Raggio).
