Zara x Narciso Rodriguez sign a minimalist chic collab that questions

A big name in American fashion for more than thirty years, Narciso Rodriguez draws on his archives to sign a Zara collection with sensual minimalism. A sign that the fast-fashion giant wants to change its image to that of author fashion?

It’s a big name in New York fashion that signs with a fast-fashion giant. Zara has teamed up with Narciso Rodriguez to reveal this September 8, 2022 a capsule collection with minimalist sensuality.

The 61-year-old American designer made a name for himself in the 1990sfirst by designing the wedding dress of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy (with John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Jr., son of the 35th President of the United States John F. Kennedy) before launching his own brand and obtaining the artistic direction of Loewe (sort of Spanish Hermès).

He has therefore been designing a sensual and sharp style for more than thirty years.which he draws from his archives and synthesizes today in this limited edition collection with Zara, from €29.95 to €359.

Does this new Zara collaboration presage a change of image?

Note in passing that Marta Ortega (38), officially became, on April 1, 2022, the new non-executive president of Inditex, the Spanish fashion giant founded by her father, Amancio Ortega (86). She was the one who supervised the design and looked after the image of the brand until then. And it is to her that we owe the increasingly recurrent use by Zara of great photographers and legendary models.

Less fast-fashion, more designer fashion

This Zara x Narciso Rodriguez collab confirms this new rule since it is the great photographer Craig McDean who signs the images of the campaign, embodied by the supermodel Natalia Vodianova (not so incidentally wife of Antoine Arnault, son of the first fortune of France, Bernard Arnault, CEO of the largest luxury group in the world LVMH).

Zara therefore seems to be moving upmarket, by appealing to the biggest names in fashion. Enough to leave behind its image as a monster of fast-fashion and leave it to the competition, right at a time when the general public wants to be ever more demanding in terms of eco-responsibility. Even if his buying habits tell the opposite…
